I bit my lip, a gesture I often resorted to in times of nervousness. I watched the speedometer climb nervously. Normally he kept it about 120...170 was pusing it. Something was up.
Just frustrated? Hopefully not with me...yes, I dared to be so selfish. Concerned, I grazed his clenched knuckles with the tip of my fingers. "Then talk to me. What's eating you?" I spoke as gently as I could, afraid of provoking him.

He relaxed under her touch. His feet let up a little, bringing the speed down to 145. "Nothing is eating me...just...I can't feel tired, but...I feel tired. Not physically, but mentally. I guess...I've just got a lot on my mind lately." At that moment they arrived into Forks. He turned and drove up a tree laden road.

I realized belatedly that I had no idea where he lived. I watched the trees whiz by warily, thankful that I had dressed nicely today for that infernal tradition of "Fall Pictures". What was so special about a school portrait anyways? It wasn't like they ever turned out well, even for the true beauties at her school.
Lysander's voice quickly pulled me out of the depths of my own mind. I turned to him, instantly concerned. Tired? An interesting emotion, for a sleepless mind. "What's on your mind?" I asked, tracing his flawless, icy cold cheek with the tip of my index finger. I couldn't help but marvel at his beauty...it was spellbinding. Even on my best days I knew I paled in comparison to him.

He smiled softly when she finger touched his cheek. He found profound comfort in his touch. But then he sighed. "There's...there's something going on. I don't want to worry you or anything so I'm not going to say much on this topic. But...I've met a vampire, her name was Victoria and...she's planning something. Something against the Cullens and I fear that...I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen." Lysander had lied about the last part. He knew what was going to happen. A war...
They passed more and more tress and then Lysander stopped in from of a black, iron gate. You would've needed to be looking for the gate to see it since it was surrounded by vines. He pressed a button on the gate-opener he had in his car and the gate slid open to the side. Once the gate was out of the way, it revealed a huge house. Two stories with vines growing all over it. Through the vines were tiny patches of white stucco. Lysander drove onto the brick driveway and parked right in front of the main entrance. He turned off his car and looked over at Adriana. "Um, we have food if you're hungry. I think Ariel bought cookies. It's just for show though. But yes, we have some food."

I looked down at my lap. Victoria...the malice-filled red-haired vampire I had met one rainy day in Port Angeles. I spoke slowly, knowing he'd jump to conclusions before I was finished. "I know Victoria. Don't worry, I know her in a strictly human capacity, I didn't know she was a vampire at the time. She's going to start a war, isn't she? Over Edward's Bella?" She asked hesitantly, knowing that she'd be dragged into this war. And probably not on the side she wanted. She smiled as Lysander tried to prove he remembered her appetite. "It's fine, Emily always fixes lunches that could feed an army," I said, smiling. Sam's fiancee really was a treat--I was sad that I hadn't gotten to know her better before I'd changed.

"Y-You've met her?" His voice had a scary edge to it. He breathed out. "Yes, I think she will start a war. I'm not sure if it's over Isabella Swan, but she told me that she wants the Cullens out of Forks because they got there before they did...but you shouldn't worry about it. There are more Cullens then there are of Victoria's coven although...she's probably someone who wouldn't mind changing people into newborns for their army...Adriana, just don't worry about it. Everything will be okay." He smiled. "Well, okay then. I guess I wouldn't have to worry about cooking you dinner then. Between you and me, I was a lousy cook when I was human." Lysander got out of his car, went around back and opened the door.

I nodded. "Maybe it's not about Bella now, but I have a feeling it will be." She shrugged. "Besides, it might not be okay in the end. So I should know, now that I'm a part of this whole battle thing. Werewolves hate "bloodsuckers". So shouldn't we be against Victoria?" I sighed. I wasn't an arguer, especially not now. I laughed at his remark. "I bet you're out of practice too!"

"One of the Cullens, Rosalie, she said that me and her brother who is with Bella are in the same predicament because you're with me...if-if this war does happen, please, please stay out of it. I know it's something that I shouldn't request because of what you are and why you are that, but please, if you were to get hurt, worst even, I'd never forgive myself." He squatted done so that he had to look up at her. Taking her hand in his, he said, "If you promise anything, please promise me that." He knew she could never promise something like that. It was her duty as a werewolf to take out vampires, but...

I froze, captivated by the beauty pleading held in his expression. I stroked his face gently. "You know I can't promise that. I can promise I won't get hurt. You know me, I'm not stupid, I don't fight with emotions like Jacob does. If anything, I'll be watching his back." I got on my knees too, so I was down on his level. "I promise nothing will happen to me. You trust me, don't you? That is something I can promise."

Lysander let out an exasperated breath, knowing that she would response with something like that. He bit the inside of his cheek, looking at the bricks below him. Then his eyes shifted to her. "Okay...I'd rather you stay out of the fight, but I can deal with that promise." What if she does get hurt? He knew that he shouldn't use if if they were talking about going up against vampires. He should be using when. "Of course I trust you. I'd trust you with whatever life I had left if it ever came to that." He stood up from his position and pulled Adriana out of the car gently.

I shook my head, sighing. "It won't come to that." I still saw the subdued fear in his expression. I squeezed his hand. Looking up at his beautiful house, I shivered. It was gorgeous and perfect and ominous, all in one heartbeat. I smoothed my hair nervously, tugged on my shirt. I was sure my palm was growing sweaty in Lysander's cool hand. I looked up at him worriedly. "She knows that I know, about you that is? She's not totally against us?" I asked hesitantly, trying to calm my rapid heartrate. My doctor was getting pissy at me again, said I shouldn't be exciting myself. However, a day in the life of a fifteen year old werewolf with a vampire sweetheart tended to be full of excitements. Besides, if I did drop dead from heart failure one day, my body'd repair the damage in a day.

He smiled softly as he watched her fix herself up. "You could be wearing a burlap sack and Ariel would still think you're presentable." They looked up to the front door. Lysander had his hand on the door knob when he turned to Adriana. "She does know and she's not against us being together. She wants me to be happy." The pervious night, Ariel and he were talking. She said that she was happy for them and that Lysander had found the perfect girl, but she had also warned him that she was a human and therefore humans could die. Lysander had ignored her then, not wanting to plague his mind with more thoughts. Her heart beat rang in his ears. "Don't worry." He stroked her hand with his thumb and he turned the door knob and opened the door.
Ariel was sitting on the couch in front of the 54 inch flat-screen television that hung above the fireplace. She had the remote in her hand and was watching the screen intently, and then she pressed a button and turned it off. Her curly, red hair was fixed up into a bushy ponytail and she was wearing a white, flowy top with dark blue jeans and gold flats. They stepped inside and Ariel looked up with a smile, but then that smile disappeared, only to be replaced by a slight frown. "What's that smell?" She asked in her French accent.
"Um..Ariel. This Adriana," Lysander said gesturing to the girl behind him. Ariel smiled again. She placed the remote on the coffee table and walked over to the both of them.
"It's so nice to finally meet you Adriana. Lysander has told me so much about you." Ariel gripped Adriana by the shoulders and kissed her on both her cheeks. Ariel turned to Lysander and frowned again. "I'm afraid you've caught me at a bad time. I have to go to Napa Valley. I'm thinking of purchasing a vineyard. Hopefully they're at least half as good as my father's vineyards in France. But we'll half to see." She patted Lysander's cheek lightly and then turned back to Adriana. "I'm sorry darling I have to leave so suddenly, but we'll talk more once I've come back-"
"How long are you going to be away?" Lysander was slightly annoyed at her unpredicted departure since she had not said anything to him about leaving. But he should have expected it, she did things like this from time to time.
"A week. I'll be staying in a hotel. And don't worry. I hear it's going to be rain, rain, rain while I'm there," she said smiling. She kissed his cheek then walked out the door.
"Adriana, dear, take care of him, would you? He asks like such a baby when I leave him." Lysander let out a loud growl and rolled his eyes.
"Bye Ariel." He called after her as she walked into the opened garage. In just about a minute, she was in her slick, black, Mercedes-Benz, backing out of the driveway. She waved out her window and sped off through the closing gate. "Arg, sorry about her. She likes to leave unexpectedly like that sometimes." Lysander pulled Adriana more into the living room and closed the door behind her.
The living room was very open with light coming in through the windows. The walls were painted a soft beige and to the left was the fireplace and the television. In the middle of the room was the white, suede couch and on the floor laid a rug Ariel had shipped over from the Middle East. To the right of the room was an archway that led to the kitchen and towards the back of the room was a staircase that winded up to the second floor.

I walked through the door, distracted for a moment by the wide, open arches of the interior when the exquisitely beautiful redheaded woman sitting on the couch caught my attention. When she mentioned the smell I supressed a sigh. Everyone notices, I thought to myself wryly. I appreciated her enthusiasm, it was something I didn't get from Jake or Dimitri. I was expecting her cold, stone kisses: just like Lysander's. I raised my eyebrows at her travel plans. Napa Valley...I knew he had money but now I was slightly disturbed by how much.
Ariel seemed nice, however, it was plain how much she loved Lysander in her eyes. I laughed. "Don't worry, ma'am, I'll look after him," I said politely. I liked her. Something about her air just exuded likeability. I smiled at Lysander. "No, no, that's totally alrght," I laughed. "She seems very nice, anyway." I smiled, letting go of his hand as I explored the hallways of his home. I couldn't quite comprehend how so much light was able to come through the windows. It glinted off of every surface in the house, casting it in a pearly sheen. "It's beautiful," I breathed, entranced by my surroundings.

Lysander smiled. "She's only nice when people are around," he joked as he watched Adriana's apparent intrigue. She moved down the hallways, looking at everything. "This is the first house the realtor showed us. The moment we stepped in, Ariel declared, 'This is the one!' We didn't even look at another house...are you sure you're not hungry? I think we have more then just cookies, but I'll have to check the pantry."
Lysander took Adriana's left hand in his right and turned her to face him. "Upstairs is my bedroom, would you like to see it? Although...it's not exactly as nice as the rest of the house. It still has the old floorboards and the chipped, teal paint. And, come to think of it, there's not much in there except a few pictures, a bed, a desk, and a dresser."

I smiled. "I can see why, it's beautiful." I wound my fingers through his, intrigued at the idea of his room, although not for the normal human reasons. "Honestly, I doubt you spend oodles of time in your room, so I'm not surprised that it's not as beautiful as the rest of your house," I said, smiling. I wasn't sure what a vampire would do in his room...draw? Listen to music? It was all beyond me. What did you occupy yourself with, when you had eternity?
