"One of its better inhabitants? I'm a freak Adriana. I don't deserve to be on Earth. I was a mistake. I should've died then become what I am. That's the way of life, right? I mean...I'm not mad at God or anything for making into this-this thing. But it was my fault for walking alone at night." He sighed thinking back. "Even though there was some great music, the 60's were the worst possible time to live in...of course I don't want that for you. I want you to live on, be even happier with someone else. Someone that could give you what you want." Lysander turned to look at her. "I love that idea...in fact, I'm in love with that idea. But death is a part of life. And once you go, so will I."
"You don't realize it, do you? That thing...that thing that beats below your chest, that thing that you're so willing to give up, when I listen to that steady beat, whether it's fast or slow, it's the only constant thing in my life. You're the only constant thing in my life."

She bit her lip, hard, looking at him. "I won't be constant if I die, Lysander," she said gently, her eyes piercing. She was always so quiet, so soft, and the one thing she wanted to yell about in her short life was surrounded by impending doom. It was a stark contrast to the way her heart skipped every time she looked at him. "If the idea is so perfect, then what is the problem? I want this, Lysander, it's the most selfish argument, but I want to be with you forever. I'm willing to give up heartbeats and life itself if I get eternity with you in the bargain," she said seriously.

"But for the time being it is." Lightly he pressed his ear to her heart and smiled, feeling the most content he had ever felt. "The problem is the process you'll have to go through to live forever." Lysander shook his head. She doesn't get it, does she? "Let's not talk about this right now," he said, straightening up and looking at her. "When you turn eighteen we'll talk about it. But for now, you've got to grow up and think about it some more." And realize how bad of an idea this is.

Adriana relented, content to feel the cold of his skin against hers. She raged with curiosity about this process, however, he shouldn't have spoken about it. She could Jake about it...or Edward, if he was still willing to speak to her. Softly, she caressed his cheek. Three years. She could do three years. "Alright," she spoke with a smile.

He smiled up at her. "Good. Three years and then we'll decide what's to become of you." He laid back down and closed his eyes, twirling some of her hair around his figure. "Let's get out of the sun, yes?"

Adriana smiled and rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I guess," she said, unwilling to move but knowing she had to go at some point. Her aunt didn't exactly know where she was, although she knew better than to worry about her niece. If anyone needed worrying about, it was Embry. She closed her eyes and sighed. It was too perfect a moment, between Lysander, the sun, and the beach. She felt like her heart would burst.

He saw her roll her eyes. He smiled. "I know, I know. It's all too perfect, being here...together." Lysander stood up and then reached down. He placed his arm under her knees and his other arm around her back. Caring her effortlessly, he said, "So where to now? Home? And by home I mean your place of course. Or if you want, you could meet Ariel. I've told her all about you. And she thinks you're just too lovely." It was of utmost importance that Ariel liked Adriana. Though, he knew, if Ariel thought Adriana too plain...well...he just couldn't listen to Ariel anymore.

She laughed, breathless when she swept her up. She glared up at him, teasingly. "I can walk for myself you know," she said. "I'm not quite so breakable as you make me out to be." Even so, she liked being there, safe, in Lysander's cool arms. She froze, though, when he mentioned his adoptive mother. "I want to meet her...but do you think she'll like me?" The idea terrified her...there were enough things keeping her from beign with Lysander already. She didn't want to add a disgruntled vampire into the mix.

"I know you can walk. But why walk when I'm here?" He smiled and kissed her temple softly. "And you are breakable or have you forgotten that the sling you're wearing is due to a broken bone." He smiled even more now. "Really? You'd like to meet Ariel? Well ok then. And trust me, she'll love you. I mean I've talked about you so much at home, she's probably sick of you already," he joked.
They got his car and he placed Adriana back onto the ground holding her left hand tightly. He opened the passenger's side door.

Adriana pouted. She didn't exactly have a response to that. "My broken bone is healing perfectly fast. Irina said I would only have to wear this one more day. I'd demonstrate our amazing healing powers, but I figure you've had enough of the smell of my blood to last you awhile," her voice was a baby bit acidic, but more teasing.
She shivered. "I hope she's not sick of me," she whispered softly.

"Yes, yes and then you'll go off and get even more hurt," he said. "I'm not going to have that happen again. As far as I can tell, I'm not letting you out of my sight." As long as I'm still here. "You don't know how hard it was not to attack you myself while you were bleeding...I was sacred. More then I've been in my entire life." He sighed and placed his hand on her cheek. "I was exaggerating. Now get in the car."

I watched his expression warily as he described my attack through his eyes. I shuddered involuntarily in his arms.
I glared at him teasingly. "You're not going to put me in there yourself?" I asked, gesturing to his car. "Since I'm so 'breakable'."

Lysander rolled his eyes. "Getting into a car isn't that hard. But would you like me to put you in there anyways?" His voice was cold. "Fine...you're not as breakable as I make you out to be. Now please, before I change my mind, can you get in the car?" He knew he was being mean, harsh even. But at the moment, he didn't seem to care.

A chill dripped down my spine at the ice in his tone. I didn't realize I had offended him...I backtracked quickly, trying to remember what I had said. I climbed out of his arms hastily. "Yeah, sure. Sorry," I muttered, somewhat frightened by his cold expression. I'd never seen him uncaring before...the blank expression seemed an abomination on the beauty of his face. I got into the passenger seat and wrapped one arm around my knees, cradling my bad arm against my chest. I scooted as close to the door as possible, my expression still somewhat pained. I was more confused, although pain sat, raw and biting, in the pit of my stomach.

Lysander closed her door with a snap and then went around the rear to the driver's seat. He opened the down and sat down in one swift movement, placing the key into the ignition and starting the car. He backed out of the parking space and got onto the road, driving back to Forks. "...I'm sorry. I'm not mad or anything just...frustrated at the moment." He stepped onto the gas pedal reaching above 170 mph.
