Irina lept up as soon as the bell ring, leaving her French class barely within the limits of normal human speed. She wandered aimlessly, trying to avoid the cafeteria. It was lunch time, but she was avoiding Rose at this particular instant...the beautiful vampire and herself were at odds, surprisingly so. She was usually the closest to her golden sister out of all her adopted siblings, but not in this case. She smiled sweetly at all the teachers who looked at her oddly, wondering if she was skipping. It was child's play to avert their minds as she walked by--she didn't want questions asked. A constant theme with her, at this particular juncture in her life. She sat on a bench near the front of the school, right in front of a clock. Always the people pleaser, Irina hated to be late. She pulled out her battered copy of Anna Karenina and began to read, easily immersed in Tolstoy's age-old romance.

Cary wasn't very hungry today. Like most days. Usually, he sat in the cafeteria and watched people eat their lunch, but he didn't feel like being enclosed in a building right now. He needed some fesh air. Cary was walking down a hall, humming to himself. Uninterested in what was going on around him. He walked out to the front of school. He enjoyed being outside. It was great to be out of the school. Well, at least he for an hour anyway. He saw Irina sitting down on a bench. He sat down next her, "Hey Irina. What's up?"

The beauty looked up at him, already aware he was coming. She gracefully marked her place in her book and slid over at the same time, making room for him. She sighed gustily. "I'm just...in a rough patch with my sister. I'm usually the peace keeper in the family, so it's kind of an awkward position to be in," she said, chewing on the inside of her lip.
She was sure it looked like an expression of stress, but it was a distraction from his scent mainly. Glorious, perfect, and luxuriant, it bathed her senses in its effervescent magic. She shivered slightly, restraining herself. One thousand years of denying her instincts, and she still couldn't repress that shiver. It was distinctly better than last time, though. She was able to focus on the ecstacy of his smell than the overwhelming bloodlust that threatened to swamp her. Even so, she gripped her book tightly, almost too tightly. She was careful not to crush the paper in her iron grasp.

Cary nodded. "Well, I would say, I know what you mean, but," He hesitated for a moment, "I have no siblings." He said laughing slightly. "I never really wanted any to be honest, though. He never really felt lonely, or anything like that. He guessed that he just acted as if is friends were his big, disfunctional family. "Well, what else has been going on?" Cary said, looking at her. Outside, in non-raining weather, he saw how beautiful, Irina truly was. He actually felt himself blushing slightly. He looked away, untill it went down.

She savored this little tidbit, adding it to the plethora of information she already knew about Cary from his thoughts. Yes, she'd been eavesdropping. But he was too interesting...every once in a while she would find herself caught in his expressions.
"I have three other sisters in Alaska, my biological ones," she said, trying to distract herself from the luxurious odor wafting from his skin. She found that this explanation was best for Carmen, Katrina, and Tanya. "I'm in a rut with one of them too, but we're in the process of smoothing it out," she said. "But overall I have nine siblings, if you count Carmen's husband Eleazar, which I do, since I've known him forever. It can get a little crazy, I'll give you that," she said with a crooked smile. She saw him scrutinizing her face and felt an overwhelming desire to move away, self conscious. He blushed. Irina gripped her book harder, trying to avoid the overwhelming madness that threatened to crush her. She stood and moved a bit away from Cary, returning to him as quickly as she left. "Sorry," she muttered by way of an excuse. "Thought I heard my name."

"Alaska?" Cary said interested. He never really knew anyone that far up north. Nor expected to meet anyone from there. His mind raced with questions. But, didn't want to seem rude asking all of them. "Well that must be cool," He said looking up, as she walked away. Did he do something wrong? He didn't mean to upset her, if he did. He was about to stutter an apology, but she was already back. Sitting next to him, yet again. "Oh," He said smiling. "No problem. Well it is cool you guys are getting it fixed up at least."

Irina gave a huge smile at the prospect of being fixed up with Tanya for good. "Yeah, it is." She turned to him for an instant. Her face was too close to his, she fought the desire to kill him. It would be so easy, here, with no witnesses...no one would ever suspect her. She forced herself back, squashing the desire for him. Curiosity burned in his eyes. Irina smiled. "Never been to Alaska, eh? Go ahead, ask your questions."

Cary laughed slightly. "That noticeable, huh?" He asked shrugging it off. Wow. It was almost as if she read my mind. That was weird. Cary said shrugging it off. He scooted a little closer to her, to seem more friendly. "Well, some people say it's beautiful there. An experience you can only get in alaska. And others say, it is just ice. Just tundra for miles around. Which one is it, really?"

Irina smiled, suddenly distracted. She wouldn't have known without her gift...and that frightened her. Humans were so predictable. But he wasn't. What did that mean? She brought herself back to reality quickly. For once, she simply let herself speak her mind, something she rarely trusted herself to do. She shrugged. "It depends. The north is tundra, but where I lived was a lot like here, only colder. Besides, even the tundra is...breathtakingly beautiful. In the summer, sometimes the sun's only down for a few hours, and when it rises you get to see all the powder glittering like diamonds for miles and miles. It's amazing."

Cary nodded. He visualized what she was saying. It looked great to him. But, sometimes you can visualize better than what stuff actually is. Cary yawned. "So, what have you been doing recently? Besides trying to fix things with your sister. Like," He thought for a second, "Wen to any cool parties, or something like that?" Cary asked. He hoped her life was at least, slightly more entertaining than his. If he went over what happened in the last month, to himself, he would probably bore himself to death.

He wasn't up to much. That made her smile. It seemed odd, for someone as good looking as him to be sitting idle so much of the time. She wondered vaguely what he spent all that time doing.
She decided to do something she didn't normally do. She tried to make him jealous, intrigued, interested by her. Ordinarily, she was quite happy to let other people write her off as ordinary. She was good at playing the part of ordinary. So what was compelling her to act extraordinary? Irina found she couldn't rightly answer the question herself.
Irina shrugged a little. "Rose and I get a kick out of going to LA on the weekends sometimes--it's really a short flight. Sometimes we check out the night scene--it's pretty fun to pretend your someone else to the guys in the bars." Rose and her had done this a couple times, but not recently. Rose was being pissy and Irina had just settled down too much. She wasn't exactly a partier anymore...she wasn't sure what she was. It was why she'd kept butting heads with Tanya, although Katrina was too kind to mention her sudden change. Irina sighed and ran a hand through the perfection of her long brown hair. She wasn't sure what, exactly, she was going to do about Rosalie. She couldn't agree with her about Edward. But Irina was a master of avoiding subjects, maybe she could just--
She was brought back to reality by her book falling on the ground. She picked it up much too hastily, you wouldn't even have noticed that she'd moved. She froze, trying to think of possible cover-ups. There was a slim possibility he hadn't noticed...she could play along with that until he proved otherwise.

"You don't know, how jealous I am right now." Cary said smiling. "Man. I would love to go visit LA." He thought of it for a moment. How he would go around, checking out bars, clubs, all of the biggest places. "I wish I could do that everyday," He said laughing slightly. Then Cary was startled, for a second by the blur. All he saw was Irina's book falling, a blur, and the book in her hands. It was almost like he passed out for less than a second. "Woah. You're pretty fast." Cary said, a smile tugging at the edge of his lips. But, he decided not to give it much thouht.

I was astounded that I could concentrate on anything other than his smell for an instant. SI was slightly intrigued. I tried to act beguiling. "Why do you like LA?" I asked, shifting my shoulder so my hair draped over it attractively. I looked up at him with solemn eyes. I shrugged. "What can I say, I'm a small town girl." It was true, the lights and shock of LA weren't for me. I was overwhelmed with relief that he only noticed my speed as speed and not as supernatural. I nearly fainted, but I couldn't faint. "Yeah, I'm one of those fast girls your mom warned you about," I said, laughing.

"I love the city," He said shrugging. "Living in New York for all of your life, kind of made me love being in the city." He nodded himself off. He was to used to the city. It was actually hard for him to adapt to being in Forks. But, then he started usual trips to Port Angelles, so he didn't mind it so much. "I love the city, since you can always have something to do. Once you turn around the corner, you will find a new store, a club, and just stuff like that." Cary laughed with her. "I remember. My mom did warn be about girls being to fast."

I smiled. "I can understand city love, I guess. I can't deny that I love New York, I suppose. I'm Russian, but I learned English really long, so I've got no accent. But I was born in Kiev, which is a pretty big city. So I kind of get it, even if I was moved before I could remember much. My real parents liked the city, I grew up in basically all the capitals of Northern Europe, they moved around a lot for their jobs. They died when I was ten, and my oldest sister, Katrina, was only fourteen. They put us into adoption agencies and they kept us together awhile, but since we were adopted by an American couple as soon as Katrina and Tanya were old enough they went to college, so I'm the only one with Carlisle and Esme now. Tanya's a sophomore and Katrina's a senior. I've spent the least amount of time with Carlisle and Esme...the rest were adopted as babies. But I have to say it's not awkward still...they're like my parents even though I've only known them about eight years." I stopped, startled. "I'm sorry...I guess I just gave you my whole life story when you didn't ask for it." I gave a sheepish smile.
