Cary nodded listening. "Wow. I bet Russia must have been cool." Cary laughed slightly when she was done. "No problem." He said shrugging. "It was really interesting. You're a good story teller." He smiled slightly. "Well. . I don't have much a a life story. Lived in New York, for all of my life. Moved here. And. . . here I am." He laughed.

I laughed. "Come on, you've got to have better stories than that," I said. I was only teasing, my general assesment of his character told me he wouldn't take offense. "New York, eh?" I nudged him suggestively, careful to be gentle. "You haven't got any stories about jello shots all night until 6 AM? And I thought you were a party boy..." I said, playfully shaking my head. I didn't have this much fun, usually. Maybe it was because I'd turned off my power...I had found it was much more interesting whenever he told me what he had to say.

"Oh." Cary said with mock surprise. "You want to hear a couple of those stories? I would be glad to share." Cary smiled. He never told anyone about late nights. Not even his parents. "Well, one night, me and my friends were out at a club, called the Underground Sea. We were planning for a normal night. Party at the club, then go get wasted at my friend's house. But, we never made it to my friends house." Cary laughed slightly remembering the night. "We were mistaken as bartenders for the bar next door to the Underground Sea. So, that bar's bouncer, dragged us in there, and told us to start serving drinks. Untill, my friend lit the bar on fire. Then we ran like hell out of there."

I laughed hard, leaning forward. "Wow. That's pretty special, I must say," I said with almost too wide a smile on my face. "I'm assuming your friend's pretty accident prone, then?" I suppressed a giggle. "Are you good at making drinks? I mean like, could you pass as a bartender?" I stopped myself. "Oh my God, I'm sorry....first I load you with my life story and now I'm bombarding you with questions..." I was in serious need of real human contact. I was too used to being able to babble and have answers fired back at me at machine gun speeds. Nervously, I ran a hand through my hair.

Cary laughed. "Don't worry about it." Cary thought for a second. "Well, together, we were very accident prone," He said smiling. "Let's just say our parents got to know the police very well. And yeah. I can make quite a bit of drinks. And it would depend what they would order. I can do most drinks, but not specialty ones." He thought again for a second. "I think I answered them all."

I laughed, leaning back against the bench. "Specialty drinks are my kinda thing. My sister basically put herself through Columbia on bartending. She doesn't need much sleep, and she's so beautiful you could die, so it was perfect for her. One weekend I went up to visit her and neither of us could sleep, so we learned how to make every drink in the world." I chuckled. "This is Tanya, by the way. I have two actual sisters, and Tanya's the younger. She's nineteen now." I smiled. "But it's good to know you have some talents, now I know who to call whenever they come home and want a drink. Since I'm totally into using my friends and all," I said. I tilted my head so he'd know I was teasing.

Cary smiled. "I don't think I could bartender a lot, though. I need my sleep," He said laughing. Cary realized she was teasing him, "Well, what if I wouldn't mind coming over, to make you drinks," He said smoothly. He kept his face straight, with a small smile on his lips. "Well, I might need you to teach me a few things. A few special drinks, that I couldn't learn from anyone else."

The smell coming off him was illegally scruptious. But I was strong; I could control myself. I thought this, until he smiled. And in the one smile, I could feel my cold dead heart shattering along the corners. Because he could never be mine. He was human and therefore could never ever be mine. Even if he took my breath from me and made it so that my heart liked beating. Even if his smile was one of the most beautiful things I'd seen in centuries. Even if Iwould have come to love him. I couldn't have him. That was simply the way it worked.
So having come to this solution I wasn't sure why I was still talking to him. Actually, that was a lie, I did know why: I couldn't help myself. One thousand years of self control told me I could at least by around the boy and not worry. So why not befriend him? It would be good to know a human, get some social ground. Humans were social creatures, and I was technically human, right?
So I continued to talk to him, sealing my fate almost completely. "I might know a few things no one else knows," I said smiling. My face was much too close to his--a little voice in the back of my head, rational Irina, told me to move back, but the overwhelming majority of my head screamed stay! My voice seemed almost husky (was I being seductive? I had no idea how to...) as I spoke. "There's probably a few drinks I know of that are pretty special."

"Well," Cary said smiling. "What do you think, about getting together, sometime at my house. Maybe we could trade few a secrets?" He asked suggestively. He wouldn't be out with Irina either. She was beuatiful, and she was pretty flippin awesome. Cary smiled. "My parents have a load, of basically everything you can think of. And, they aren't home often. So, what do you think?" Cary asked. He was hoping for a yes. He hoped the enthusiasm wasn't to obvious in his voice.

I wasn't exactly sure what his intention was...but it seemed to be her. I would have blushed profusely, but I would have to settle for embarrassed. I looked down shyly, then back up at his face. His tone was suggestive, but I refused to intrude on his thoughts. I thought...I knew it was stupid but I was a sucker for surprises. This one would be the sweetest surprise in my long life. I eventually smiled at him. I could tell he liked that. I immediately cursed my face, every inch of this body that had to call to him so strongly...I knew how beautiful it was. But it was barely my body, it was my face and my arms but not how I was on the inside. I should have been a plain girl. My personality suited it well.
I shrugged, tilting my shoulder. "That sounds good," I said with a shy smile. "I probably have a few things I could teach you." I wanted to squeal with excitement, but calmed myself easily. I needed to be levelheaded. There was a chance he didn't even want me.

Cary simply nodded. He tried keeping his composure. It ended up, being hard. He was extremely excited about this. But, he didn't know what she thought this was going to be. It could be differently viewed, from her eyes, as of his. He smiled again. "What are you doing after school today? We could just go straight to my place, after. . " Cary said waiting for an answer. His excitement , he was hoping, wouldn't break through.

Today? So soon? My hand trembled, too fast for his eyes to even dectect the minute twitch. I wasn't sure if I could control myself...either romantically or physically. I would try, it was true. I realized absently that my thoughts managed to stray off his scent, now and then. That had to be a good sign. I tried to speak but couldn't, not until I made my decision. Then I gave a smile, cursing myself internally for the instant happiness that filled him at the expression. I wished I could at least spare myself his feelings--but he was so elemental, so raw, he didn't have the centuries of schooling I did in hiding his feelings. I couldn't block them out. That was a bad sign.
But I agreed, stupidly. I agreed to meet him. "Yeah, that sounds good actually, I don't have much homework today anyways." I tried to come up with something that sounded human, when in reality my three hours of homework only took me 15 minutes at most. I could even do it before class, but I was too good a person...vampire. I sighed. I knew I was biting myself in the foot here.

Cary smiled, happily. "All right. Just meet me by, my bike in the Parking Lot, after school." He said nodding. The bell rang. Cary frowned. "Well, I guess i'll see you after school," He said as he got up. There wasn't any point in being late for class. "Later, Irina." He said as he walked away, towards his class.

I smiled with him, glad he was happy. The emotion was like sunbeams. Bright, happy, and yellow. I gave a little wave as he left. "Bye, Cary," I said softly. I sighed, putting my book in my bad and slowly making it in the other direction towards my French class. I sighed. This was going to be a long, slow, boring day. There was nothing in class to challenge me since I was fluent, and the classes after that I had degrees in. I actually had degrees in all my classes. What else is there in an infinite lifetime to do other than learn? To me, it had seemed the most rational thing. I took my seat in Madame Houde's class and sighed. Yes, today would be long and boring until I got into that damned parking lot.
