Anna Williams walked along the beach. She had been in desperate need of a quick get away, for a long time. And since it was a Saturday, she thought it would be the perfect time to relax, at the beach. Of course, she didn’t expect he beach to be so depressing and gloomy. The beaches she had gone to, back in Georgia, were almost always nice and sunny. But, at the beach in Forks, all you could find was driftwood, floating in the murky water, or gray clouds in the sky.
Anna continued to walk. Even though, it was a horrible day, to go to the beach, and the clouds looked they would burst any second, showering all of Forks with rain, she still thought she could make the best of it.
Anna finally came to a stop, near a particularly large piece of driftwood, and took off the long T-shirt she had been using as a cover-up for her red and black polka dotted bikini. She laid out her towel and put her shirt and flip flops next to it.
Anna then went over to the edge of the beach, and allowed the cold sea water to wash over her toes. She took a deep breath, her nostrils filled with the smell of the ocean. And she stepped out, further into the water, until it was nearly up to her knees. She turned around and saw that her belongings had become tiny black dots, with how far out into the ocean she was. But she saw something else, a much bigger dot, a moving one. And, it was coming toward her…

Jake had taken to walking the beach when Bella wasn't around. It was just something he had started doing now. Quil and Embry were busy doing God knows what. Then again, Jake had been spending so much time with Bella that he couldn't blame them for making plans that didn't involve him.
Without stopping to think, Jake stripped down to his boxers. He wanted to feel the cool pacific ocean once more. Briefly, he thought about Cliff Diving. But he had promised that for Bella. He wanted to wait to show her. He wanted her to be amazed. Today wasn't the day.
He saw a person bobbing in the water when he started wading in. He waved. His russet colored skin shimmered in the sun. He called out, "Hello!"

Anna looked ahead, at the figure that had said "Hello!", she still couldn't define who it was, she was to far away. So, she started to walk back toward the shore, the water lowering by every step she took.
And a few yards away from the shore, she immediatley recongnized the tall figure, the one that she thought was a tiny black dot. At least she was right about him beinga Black. It was Jacob Black, the guy that had saved her from a couple of drunks, helped her up when she fell out of a tree, and who had directed her back to Forks, when she was lost. "Hi!" she shouted back to him.

Man, this Anna girl was just everywhere in Jake's life. It was just odd. Jake wasn't used to seeing someone... so often, except for Bella, Quil and Embry (okay, and Billy, but he didn't count since Jake lived with Billy). It made Jake feel slightly uneasy. I really hope that this girl doesn't have a crush on me or something, Jake thought, making a face. He wouldn't be thrilled if that were the case.
"What's up?" He called as he waded closer to Anna. His russet skin looked beautiful in the sun light. It was the perfect day.

“The sky.” Anna said, laughing slightly. Beautiful days like the one that day always made her more pleasant to be around. “And if you’re wondering what’s down. That would be the ground.” She said, smiling.
Even though she new she definitely didn’t have a crush on Jacob, she couldn’t help but like him. More and more each time they saw each other. But, she made sure they would only stay friends. No way was she going to weird out one of the first friendships she had with someone.
“Beautiful day, huh?” she asked him. She knew he probably thought it was a perfect day, out. But she thought it would still be polite to ask him that.

"Actually, that would be the water," Jake joked. He was happy joking around. It was fun. He was always happy go lucky, and joking just brought that side of him out more so. It just made him feel good about himself; he didn't need any reason to smile or joke around or anything like that.
Yeah," he agreed. "Today is absolutely perfect. You don't get many of those in Washington state," he commented truthfully. Especially in the area that La Push and Forks were located in; the rain was far too often. Even so, Jake was like the sun with his personality so it didn't matter.

Anna smiled at him, again. She couldn’t help herself, it had been the first sunny day she’d seen in weeks. She had missed the sun, so much. “So, you up for a friendly swimming competition?” she asked.
Anna wanted so badly to have someone to just have fun with. And, in her opinion, competing was fun. Even though she wasn’t that strong a swimmer.

Jake thought for a moment. He liked competitions. He normally won them, too. Jake was such a sore loser. It was clearly a character flaw. "Sure, sure," he said nonchalantly. He was up to anything to keep his mind off of Bella.
I was wishing she'd be at the beach today. I wonder where she's been. I can't seem to get a hold of her when I call. I wonder if Charlie is giving her my messages. Did I do something to make her upset? I need to figure out what I did wrong so it will never happen again. Jake had a lot going on in his mind.

“Great,” Anna said, happily, she grinned at him. “I think we should go from here,” she said, pointing to where they were standing, “To that piece of driftwood, all the way out there.” She said, now pointing at the drift wood, a couple yards away.
Anna took her position, ready to start swimming. “On three,” She said. “One…two…three!” she shouted and then took off, doing the breast stroke, toward the drift wood.

"Alright. Prepare to lose," he said with a good natured grin. He was in a good mood. He laughed softly to himself. Jake was in a good mood.
Jake shot through the water at a quick speed. He wasn't really sticking with any type of single handed of swimming style, just going with the flow. Jake's lean body cut swifty through the waves. His hair occasionally flew into his eyes - it was so long - but he didn't really mind.

Anna grinned back, “You know, you shouldn’t talk to yourself in a negative way.” She shouted back at him, he was still behind her, but not for long. She quickly changed tactics and started doing a freestyle stroke.
Anna’s hair, much like Jacob’s, was getting in her way. It made her tread water and kept floating around her, making her hands get caught in it, as she pulled them back up and down, cutting through the water.

Jacob laughed at Anna's words and chased after. He didn't really have a swimming style- he just went. It was fun. Jacob hadn't laughed since Bella had mysteriously stopped seeing him. Anna brought out a happy side to him.
Jacob started swimming purely under the water only. The waves were choppy and making it harder to cut through the water. Jacob was gaining speed. Finally, he reached the point and broke water. Jacob let out a triumphant "hooah!" as he made the mark.

Anna frowned slightly, as she arrived at the driftwood, a few moments after Jacob beat her there. "Best...two...out...of...three?" she asked, between pants.
"After all, you have the unfair advantage of your height." Anna added, it seemed like she was trying to point out the obvious, just to get her way, like she was a four year old. She grinned, sheepishly at that thought.

"Not right now," Jacob said. He wasn't even winded. Maybe he was in better shape than Anna. Maybe not. Who cared? "Besides," Jacob added with a cocky attitude. "I just beat your ass fair and square. What did I win?" He wondered with a grin.

Anna gawked at him and then grinned. "You won me dunking your head under water." she said, playfully. Then she pushed his head down. When she thought he was sufficently dunked she let him go back up, for air. She gave a him a big grin, before pulling herself up on top of the driftwood, like it was a surf board.
Then Anna sat down on it, letting her feet touch the water. "So what do you want to do, now?" she asked him, while watching the small rings forming around the places her toes touched the water.
