Irina needed to hunt. She could deal forever without sustenance, she'd found, but she'd also found that the fire that ate her from inside was not preferable to the empty feeling she got when full. She'd like the comfort of knowing she wasn't going to massacre the unsuspecting townsfolk. But she could trust herself, probably every bit as Carlisle. Although she had no secrets for the remaining vampire population other than get old. She was ancient, so very old she felt sometimes as if she were near death from being tired of life. She was yet to find much in life she was willing to stay around for. Her love was limited to the brother and sister type.
All this she pondered on a particularly cold and rainy day outside the groceery store. They didn't need food, of course, but Irina wanted some flowers for the sake of flowers. She wasn't sure why she was getting them, but she'd long since learned to go with her instincts. Besides, they would be a nice treat for Esme.

Today was an.. interesting day in forks. For Alira at least. She hadn't been around the Town Center much, so she decided to go look around. Daydreaming, of course, she ran into someone. She simply looked up at him as he swore, but then she watched as he looked at her, attempting to flirt. Typical. she thought. Shaking her head, she rolled her eyes and walked away, smiling to herself when she heard him calling himself an idiot. She didn't talk much, she preferred not to.
A strong smell hit her. It took her a moment to realize that it was another vampire. Probably the first one she'd found here if she remembered correctly. She kept walking, coming upon flowers as the smell grew stronger. She saw a girl, had to be about Alira's age. Well, human years. She didn't say anything, though. She simply stared. She tended to do that. When the vampire looked up, she looked down, looking at an unnaturally blue flower. It had to have been fake. It had no scent. And she'd never seen flowers this color of blue.

The vampire caught her attention probably because of the sheer difference of her looks. She wasn't mainstream like Irina was. She'd never had a taste for dying her hair, although it was probably rational whn your roots would never grow in. She had known Alira was coming, knew her current thoughts but nothing more than that. She had the power to know past experiences and feelings but she usually felt so uncomfortable fishing in people's minds like that. She smiled and gave a little wave at the girl. She walked over to her gracefully. "Hey, I'm Irina Denali."

She was slightly surprised when the vampire came up to her, calling herself Irina. Hey. she said, not taking her eyes off the flower. You could hear her british accent with a hint of Aussie as she spoke. Though you'd never hear the Aussie accent unless she told you about it. I'm Alira Sweetnam. she said, looking up at Irina. She crossed her arms like she normally did. She felt weird just standing there with her hands at her side.
Alira knew how strange she probably looked to Irina. After all, she had fishnet gloves, necklaces, and bracelets on. Along with her bright lipstick and eye makeup. And don't forget her ruffled pink skirt and pink corset. If anyone saw her, the first thing they'd probably think was, 'What a freak.' seeing as how she dressed. The next thing would probably be about how beautiful she was. She hadn't yet found someone who didn't think she was beautiful. She wasn't sure about Irina, though.

Irina smiled. She'd long since learned to be tolerant of everyone and everything that came her way. "Alira's a pretty name. You're a Brit, right? With some Aussie in there? Not too much though, human ears wouldn't even notice it." She could speak freely, she could easily tune out the ears of any person within a ten mile radius. She shrugged a bit. "I'm Russian but I'm old. No one can tell anymore." She grinned, more free with herself than usual. She figured she had a certain human boy to blame for that but ignored the thought, as usual.

Hearing the vampire's voice, she watched her, but didn't say anything as she said that Alira was a pretty name. When Irina spoke of Alira's accent, she nodded. Of course human ears probably wouldn't hear her accent. It wasn't very distinct. Irina had a very faint russian accent. Though, it was barely there anymore. You'd figure Alira's accent wouldn't be there, either. But she rarely spoke. I wouldn't have guessed. she said, referring to when Irina said that she was russian.

She shrugged. Other than practicing with Alice, she hadn't spoken Russian to a Russian in many years. It was easy to keep her accent subdued. "I sometimes slip into it when I let my guard down. But most people guess because of my name, Denali's not my real last name, it's my family's." Or one of her families, anyway. Somewhat awkwardly, she looked up at Alira. "Do you have a family, or..." She could imagine trying to walk this life alone. She'd done it. And she could easily say she found it a worse torture than Jane's worst moments.

She listened as Irina spoke, but didn't say anything about it. She looked up at her, but looked away when she asked about Alira's family. No. she said, fixing her gaze back on the flowers. She remembered the night she lost her family. It was her fault, and she hated it. Though, they'd be dead now anyway. She sighed, unsure of what to do now. She hadn't really anything to say. Unless Irina brought up something that she could talk about. Granted she'd only get short answers, but still.

Irina had to put up the best mental block she had once all the memories of Alira's family's death hit her. She gave a small shudder, unable to repress that one traitor reaction. She only saw one shard of the entire experience and already it seemed horrible. She immediately pitied the girl. "Oh, I'm sorry." She was, she was so sorry something like that had to happen to a person. She tried a wry smile, unsure of how the expression held up on her face after that discovery. "You've obviously developed a fondness for stylistic experimentation, however," she noted dryly. Irina thought it was fine that she wanted to experiement. God only knew how much experimentation Rosalie had done in the way of wedding dress styles.

She sighed again, knowing that Irina knew what happened to Alira's family. When she spoke again, Alira shrugged, looking back up at her. Once more, she said nothing. But then she decided to do something she hadn't done before. How long have you been a vampire? she asked, wondering if Irina was older or younger than her.

Irina chuckled. Her ancientness always surprised others of her kind, it was a source of endless amusement for her. The truth was, there was something wrong with her. She was nearly as old as Aro but even so she bore no resemblance to his brittle, chalky form. Her skin was still as soft and vibrant as it had always been in Kiev, her hair the same length. Exempting the clothes, probably nothing had changed since that day for her physically. She could have been plopped down back with her parents and not a soul would have known the difference. With a lopsided smile, she spoke. "I've been a vampire for a little over one thousand years."

She was slightly surprised as Irina spoke. A thousand years? She knew she was going to live that long, and longer, but she couldn't imagine it. That is, if she hadn't gotten herself killed first. Not like she would, though. Oh. was all she said in response. She knew that Irina may have thought that Alira was rude, ignorant maybe, but the fact of the matter was that she just didn't talk much. She didn't want to.

Irina gave a small smile at her quietness. It was nice, a contrast to Rosalie's almost constant state of insulting banter. "I know, people just can't imagine living that long. But you'll get there eventually. Most of us do." It was true, vampires getting killed was an almost extraordinarily rare event, especially among the vegetarians. There was no need to fight over hunting grounds, it seemed. Giving a shrug, she allowed herself the teensiest entrance into her mind, at least so she knew something about her silence. She had figured it stemmed from a dislike of speaking, and she was right. It didn't seem fair, that she was a good judge of people and a mind reader. It seemed slightly superfluous.

She listened as Irina spoke, having no response once more. She knew that Irina was reading her mind, but she didn't think it. She didn't want Irina knowing that Alira knew. After all, Alira was hearing her thoughts, but she wasn't thinking. She did wonder if Irina could read minds, just to see what she'd do or think, even though Alira already knew the answer. She was good at doing things without thinking, therefore, she could do many things without Irina knowing.

She gave a half-smile at the girl's silence. "What is it you can do, if anything?" she wondered aloud. She could tell there was some evasion going on but made no attempt to find what was behind it. She did take greater care in keeping her intrustion as limited as possible. She kept it to feelings and loud thoughts only. It would be interesting to know what the vibrantly hued vampire could do. She had a feeling it was out of the box. Besides, Irina had more fun when people told herself rather than just digging through their minds for a few scraps of information.
