“Actually, I think what I’m really trying to say is stupid and-” Anna stopped short and felt her joking and smiling face turn dead. She gawked at him for a few moments, then recomposed herself, making her face expressionless. “You’re joking, right?” she said, her voice shaking a little bit. From what she’d read about vampires, they had sapphire quarter moons outlined on their foreheads, until they reach adult hood, then the moon gets colored in the rest of the way and they get tattoos all over their faces…she knew, of course, that there were other kinds of vampires than just the ones she’d read about, like the Dracula kind. But, were there inhumanly cold, pale, fast, and strong ones too?
Anna could feel herself trembling, How the hell did I get mixed up with a vampire!? she asked herself. The rain was still pounding on them, but she barely noticed it, too tied up with her thoughts. Did this make any sense? Was it just a dream? Was it real? Could there be a whole other world, a dangerous one, that no other humans knew about?
Anna didn’t say anything else. She was waiting for her nightmare to be over. Or Tristan to kill her and then drink all of her blood, if he really was a vampire, that is.

She sighed when he spoke. No.. I'm not joking.. he said. He looked away, able to hear her thoughts. He saw her trembling body and sighed again. He knew he shouldn't have told her. Humans weren't supposed to know that vampires existed. No one was. Well, except vampires themselves and werewolves- if they existed.
I'm not what you're thinking.. he said. I'm not going to hurt you. he continued, hoping to make her feel better. He didn't want her being afraid of him. I'd never kill a human. I don't feed off of humans and I never will. he said, looking at her. His voice was soft, warm. He wanted her to know that he wasn't going to hurt her.

Anna looked at him; he looked almost like he was in pain. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She did that a few times, before realizing that her voice just wasn’t going to cooperate with her. So, instead, she just listened, cringing only once when he said he didn’t feed off of humans. But, she did listen very closely, as he tried to…..soothe her? Why the hell would a vampire care what a human was thinking? Unless...“You’re different than the other vampires?” She asked, finally finding her voice, even though it did sound hoarse.
“The…the other…vampires do…drink human blood, don’t they?” Anna asked, though she already knew the answer.

He nodded when she spoke. There's quite a few of us who don't feed off of humans. he said. I haven't met a vampire who fed off of humans, don't worry. he continued. He sighed, unsure of what to do next. Or what to say. Instead, he listened, waiting to see if she'd say something, or if he could hear her thoughts.

Anna nodded, the truth hadn’t caught up to her, yet. The truth that he was a…vampire. One of the fictional characters from her books…only real? “Erm…” she said. She wanted to ask about vampires. See how different they were from the books she’s read about them…Dracula…Marked…Betrayed…Chosen…and all those other things about vamps. But, Tristan didn’t fit any of the descriptions…no crescent moon on his forehead, no sapphire tattoos framing his face, and no fangs. Fangs? She remembered back to earlier that day when he’d smiled at her. Nope. No fangs.
“So…umm…vampires…what-er-what…” Anna stuttered, she had no idea how to phrase her questions. What the hell are vampires like? What do they look like? What do they act like? How many of them…feed off humans? How many are they? And do they all live among humans like Tristan was doing?

He could hear her thoughts, and answered them aloud. Most vampires are nice. You can tell if one feeds off of humansif their eyes are red. They'll always seem.. more radiant than other humans. More beautiful. They act normal, except they don't eat much. And most of them in forks feed off of animals. And yes, they live among humans. he said, sighing. Does that answer your questions? he asked.

Anna's jaw dropped. "Not quite," she said, "Can you read minds?" she asked. "And how many vampires are there in Forks?" she asked. How many could there be in such a small town? And what would draw them there? "So, pretty much every vampire looks like you?" she asked, just to clarify that.
Anna looked at her watch. They'd been sitting in the rain, for over half an hour. "Erm...do you want to go inside, or something?" she asked, trying to be as curtious as she could be to a vampire.

He nodded. Yes, but not every vampire can read minds. And.. there are a lot of vampires in Forks, but if you're with me, they'll stay away. he said, sighing. Well.. not exactly like me, he said, hearing her voice once more. They're all beautiful, but most have red eyes if they feed off of humans. The ones like me have either topaz, black, or orchard eyes. Black normally means they're hungry or mad. Topaz usually happens after you feed. Though mine are neither colors. he continued. When she asked to go inside, he smiled. Sure. After all, we don't need you getting sick. he said, standing up.

Anna stood up too, after noticing the tone of his voice and the double meaning behind his words when he’d said they’ll stay away from her when she was with him, she didn’t question him about that. “Me?” she repeated, “Don’t vampire’s get sick?” she asked, though she pretty much knew the answer already. No. Vampire’s were too perfect to ever get sick.
“So, why aren’t your eyes topaz or black…or even red, for that matter?” Anna asked, trying to organize her jumbled mind. So many questions- she thought, but then silenced her thoughts before she could continue and finish saying “but he’s probably sick of hearing them.”

He shook his head. No. We can't get sick. he said, sighing. I'm not sure. he said, when she questioned his eyes. Some vampire's eyes are different. Not the normal color. Yet I'm not sure why. he continued. He hear her thoughts once more, and wondered why she stopped. But he didn't say anything. He decided to leave it be.

“Oh, okay.” Anna said, while nodding. “If vampire’s have to have blood to survive…then why aren’t you drinking my blood? Or any other humans blood?” she asked. And when he didn’t answer, she flushed bright red. She must’ve said something that was considered humiliating, or something like that, to vampires.
Anna took the silence as an opportunity to get off the roof. So, she crouched down and grabbed a hold of the edge of the roof. She continued to lower herself down the side of it, until her feet found the first window sill, and she could stand on that.

He smiled when she blushed. I don't feed off of humans. I feed off of animals. he said. But I will admit. You smell amazing. he said, smiling at her. After moments of silence, he watched her slowly begin to climb down. He smiled to himself, swifting climbing down. Wrapping his arm securely around her waist, he brought them into her room, letting go of her waist and smiling. It's faster this way. he said.

Anna flinched away from him, when he said she smelled good. And by good he meant appetizing. Then she stiffened, when she felt his arms around her waist. For a second she thought it was the end and he was going to kill her. Her only hope was that it would be quick and over with fast.
Anna closed her eyes, not wanting to see the look on his face when he attacked. But, she didn’t feel anything, so she opened her eyes. Her jaw dropped when she saw that they’d suddenly appeared in her very small, and pretty messy apartment. She gawked at him, forgetting that only a moment ago she thought he was going to kill her, “How did you do that?” she asked, in amazement.

He ignored her thoughts that he was going to kill her. And that he meant appetizing. Alright, sure. She did smell good. But it was her blood that appealed to him. Though he had no intention of killing her, or of changing her. Not unless she wanted it, though he wasn't sure if he would. Please, stop thinking that I'm going to kill you, because I'm not. he said, sighing as he set her down.
Seeing her amazed expression, he smiled, giving a short laugh. I'm a vampire. We can do pretty much anything. he said. I could jump from the roof and come out unscathed. You should see me run. he said, smiling at her. He noticed the tidyness of the room in front of him, but ignored it. His own house was somewhat messy, never bothering to clean it. No one came over anyway. Even if they did, surely they'd notice the pale walls and old-fashioned furniture that almost every vampire- that he met- had.

Anna flushed scarlet, "Sorry." she muttered. She couldn't help herself from thinking scary things about death, not while a vampire was standing a foot in front of her.
"So, your fast, your white as a sheet, your freezing cold…why is that?” Anna asked. “How’d you become a vampire? And why do you have all those…extra features?” she asked. She’d stopped comparing him to the characters in her books, but couldn’t help herself from noting all the “extra features”, as she’d called them, that matched up to a few from the vampire series she’d read. Like: being fast, being attractive, and being talented.
